Who Was Dodi Fayed, Princess Diana's Last Partner?

Emad El-Din Mohamed Abdel Mena'em Fayed, better known as Dodi Fayed, was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1955. He was the eldest son of millionaire businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed, owner of the famous Harrods Department Store in the United Kingdom and many other successful businesses.

Dodi was raised surrounded by luxury and had the most exclusive education around Europe, including the prestigious Sandhurst Military Academy where both Prince Harry and Prince William attended.

Dodi made a name for himself as early as his teens by spending a lot of time on the London night scene and as a frequent visitor to major fashion clubs. He would be called the "Don Juan Millionaire" and known as a successful film producer.

Apparently Dodi Fayed and Princess Diana first met while she was still married to Prince Charles at a polo match where curiously enough, Charles and Dodi competed on opposing teams! It wouldn't be until 1997 when the two became closer.

Although we can never know for certain the feelings that Princess Diana felt towards the successful producer, it was revealed that Dodi had serious intentions of marrying Diana. Whether their romance was true or not, not everyone in the country's political sphere viewed their relationship favorably. Even the then Prime Minister Tony Blair admitted in his own autobiography that he voiced concerns about their relationship.

Many believe Princess Diana began her relationship with Dodi to recover from her heartbreak after her relationship with famous surgeon Hasnat Khan. Diana and Hasnat had a relationship from 1995 to 1997.

When images of Diana vacationing with Dodi and her boys came to light, the couple had been together for a few months already. The media were caught by surprise and did their best to stalk the pair to document anything they did.

On the night of August 30, 1997, the couple was seen dining at the luxurious Ritz hotel in Paris (owned by Mohamed Al-Fayed). According to Dodi's father, the couple had gotten engaged during the trip!

Dodi Fayed and Princess Diana and their bodyguards were heading to Dodi's apartment on August 31st when their car was being aggressively pursued by paparazzi. Their car spun out of control which caused the death of Princess Diana, Dodi Fayed, and their driver Henri Paul.

We can all remember the crushing impact Diana's death had on the world, millions mourned for the beloved "People's Princess" but sadly, Dodi's passing did not have the same impact. Dodi's funeral was an elegant Musil ceremony at a mosque in London. His father set up small shrines for Dodi throughout London honoring the memory of his son and Diana. In 2005 he erected a lavish and controversial monument with a sculpture of the couple dancing. In 2018, it was announced that the statue would be moved.

Princess Diana is greatly missed, her positive influence as the wonderful role model she was will never be forgotten and lives on through her children who continue to honor her memory.
