Camilla met Prince Charles in 1970 while playing polo. For both of them it was said to have been intense feelings. Their relationship lasted until 1972. But Camilla had no hopes of becoming Charles' wife. In 1972 the Prince had to go to sea for a few months. During this time Camilla got engaged to the cavalry officer Andrew Parker Bowles (* 1939). 

Charles and Camilla's relationship however, revived in the mid-eighties, although both were married. In 1989 an intimate conversation between the two was recorded and published in 1993. During a television interview in 1995 Diana said: "Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded. After Charles publicly admitted adultery in 1994, Camilla divorced in 1995. 

In the following years Camilla retired from public life. In 1999, she and Charles were photographed together for the first time in many years when they left a hotel after a celebration. From 1999 on, the couple were often seen together in public. In 2001 they were photographed for the first time kissing on the sidelines of a charity event.

The Duchess supports Prince Charles in his representative tasks. She regularly accompanies him on trips abroad and state visits. Camilla has been President of the National Osteoporosis Society since 2001. The fight against this disease is particularly close to her heart, as her mother and grandmother died as a result of this disease.

She is also the patron of "Emmaus", a homeless association, and various organizations that care for crime victims and children. Because of her interest in animals, she is the patron of the "Animal Care Trust", "Brooke Hospital for Animals" and the "British Equestrian Federation". She is also a champion for women's rights. She heads a total of 51 non-profit organizations.
