Prince William (39) has been in the public eye since the day he was born because he will be the King of England one day. But during his studies at St. Andrews University, the Royal wanted to do his best to feel at least a little bit like a normal student.
Prince William's Fake Name
As The Mirror reports, William had a nickname in order to avoid attracting extra attention. His fellow students are said to have named the Prince "Steve" so that not everyone knew immediately who they were talking about. Perhaps that is how he was introduced to his eventual wife Duchess Kate, whom he got to know during his studies. But it wasn't the only name the Duke of Cambridge used at university.
The royal enrolled as "William Wales" instead of Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales at the time - but that would have been too obvious. During his time at the university, the royal family is said to have consulted with the press to get William an education without paparazzi hounding him.
Some will remember the only media group to break this agreement was Prince William's own uncle Prince Edward. Prince Edward had a media company of his own that was known to not follow industry standards and was eventually dissolved.
In 2001 William began his studies, initially majoring in art history, later studying geography as well. He graduated in 2005 where his father and grandparents were also present at the ceremony!
Even after his time at university, William used aliases and nicknames. So he was addressed in the military as Lieutenant Wales. Prince Harry (36) also used the name Wales as a surname during his career in the army. Even Harry isn't the prince's real name. He was actually baptized Henry Charles Albert David. Harry is just a nickname and he too used a fake name for his social media!
