- The couple will celebrate with THEM
Prince Harry (40) and Duchess Meghan (43) will spend Christmas at their Californian home this year, according to an insider. This follows yet another non-invitation to the royal family's traditional festivities at Sandringham.
Instead, the Sussexes are planning a special celebration with Meghan's mother Doria Ragland (68) and their children Archie (5) and Lilibet (3). An insider revealed to 'Closer' that the couple is determined to "ensure the children have a joyful day" even though they won't be joining the extended royal family.
Christmas in California
Since moving to the US in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan have not participated in the royals' Christmas gatherings. The last time they were in the UK during the festive season was in 2018, at Sandringham.
This year, they reportedly received an invitation from Harry's uncle Charles Spencer to spend Christmas at Althorp House. However, they declined due to security concerns.
"Both Harry and Meghan agree that they shouldn't return to the UK until the security arrangements are resolved," says the insider.

Security concerns and UK visits
The couple's security concerns are not unfounded. Having had their personal protection withdrawn, returning to the UK presents significant challenges for the Sussexes. Harry commented, "all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read."
These concerns have meant that Meghan has not set foot in the UK since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. Harry, on the other hand, has made several solo visits, most recently in August for the funeral of his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes.
Future of the Sussexes in the USA
Harry and Meghan's future in the USA is also uncertain. The potential re-election of Donald Trump could lead to their deportation, as Harry's visa status is in question due to his past drug offenses. "The Sussexes are seriously concerned," reports the source.
"Both Harry and Meghan agree that they shouldn’t return to the UK until the security arrangements are resolved." Despite these uncertainties, they are determined to make Christmas in Montecito a memorable experience for their children.
