Catherine Tate was born May 12, 1968, to single mother Josephine in Bloomsbury, London. By the time she was a teenager she knew she wanted to be a professional actor so she studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Very early on in her career, Tate landed television roles in the dramas The Bill and Londons Burning, all the while performing stand-up comedy.

Her show was nominated for Emmy and BAFTA awards and won a British Comedy Award. Catherine then took to the stage in the revival of Some Girl(s) alongside Friends' David Schwimmer, The Exonerated, and Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

Catherine Tate On Doctor Who

In 2006, Tate got her first taste of the Doctor Who Universe by playing David Tennant's companion in a season finale and Christmas Special episode. The fans took such a great liking to her that she came on as a series regular playing "Donna Noble" Tennant's partner.

Since her time with her own show, Catherine has had parts in countless productions such as dysfunctional yet hypnotizing "Nellie Bertram" in The Office and in Love and Other Disasters. She continues to create successful spin-offs of The Catherine Tate Show like Nan's Christmas Carol, Catherine Tate's Nan, and the highly anticipated upcoming film This Nan's Life.
