- The 2022 Oscars air live today
- Lin-Manuel Miranda won't be there
- His wife tested positive for COVID-19
Lin-Manuel Miranda films are well-represented at the 2022 Oscars, but the man himself won't be at the ceremony tonight.
His song "Dos Oruguitas" from Encanto is up for Best Original Song, and the Miranda-directed film Tick, Tick... Boom! picked up another two Oscar nods. But here's why you won't see Miranda at the Oscars.
Why Lin-Manuel Miranda isn't at the 2022 Oscars
Lin-Manuel Miranda isn't missing the Oscars because of drama, like the Rachel Zegler incident — though she is now expected to be at the ceremony, for what it's worth.
Unfortunately, an illness in the family will keep Miranda away from the Oscars. On Twitter, he announced that his wife Vanessa just tested positive for COVID-19.
Lin-Manuel said he and his kids were negative for COVID on Saturday, but he will skip awards night on Sunday "out of caution," he wrote.
Also interesting:
"Cheering for my TickTickBoom & Encanto families w my own family, alongside all of you," Miranda added.
So, no Lin-Manuel Miranda at this year's Oscars. His Encanto song is considered a frontrunner in the music category alongside Billie Eilish's theme from No Time to Die.
Miranda also directed Tick, Tick... Boom!, which grabbed a Best Actor nomination for Andrew Garfield and another for Best Film Editing.
The 2022 Oscars air live today at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
