The Voice is returning to the studio this fall, and a brand-new promo for season 19 of the singing competition has been released! As People shares, the show is giving fans a first look at how the coaches and contestants have been filming while continuing to social distance in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Voice coaches get creative with welcoming contestant
The Voice has made several changes to enforce physical distancing on the show. Instead of being side by side, the coaches' famous red chairs have been spaced out so that they are eight feet apart. The coaches have also had to get creative by finding new ways to welcome contestants to their teams instead of hugs or handshakes!
In the promo, Gwen Stefani can be seen trying to use a t-shirt cannon to give her new team member a welcome gift. "I got a present for you but because we're social distancing, I'm going to launch it at you," she says. "You ready?" When the cannon fails to be effective, Stefani's partner and fellow judge Blake Shelton suggests she place the shirt on a long gloved pole— advice Stefani ends up taking!
The Voice films in studio for the first time in months
The Voice went virtual when the coronavirus was declared a pandemic earlier this year, with season 18 airing right from the coaches' and contestants' homes! As People mentions, the show's host Carson Daly was able to do some segments on an empty soundstage, but filmed from home as well.
Stefani, Shelton, and the other season 19 coaches— Kelly Clarkson and John Legend— have all been keeping busy during the pandemic! Stefani appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when Dua Lipa guest hosted. On the show, she talked about being quarantined with Shelton, who she also released the new song "Happy Anywhere" with this summer!

Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock back in June, and also stepped in to judge America's Got Talent in place of Simon Cowell after his bike injury. As for Legend, he and wife Chrissy Teigen are preparing to welcome their third child together, which they revealed in a new music video! We're looking forward to seeing what the new season of The Voice has in store (from a distance, of course!) when it returns on October 19!
