Tradition Breaking In The Royal Family
His father Prince Charles stuck to the rules and named his younger brothers Prince Andrew and Prince Edward his "supporters" in his wedding to Diana, Princess of Wales. Prince William's uncle Prince Edward did the same in his own wedding, naming his brothers as "supporters."

Prince William stuck to his guns and chose to publicly refer to Prince Harry as his "Best Man." The Times reported that Prince William felt the title "had more relevance to his life than the alternative." Prince Harry returned the favor when he married Meghan Markle, easily naming his brother "Best Man" and joking that he got down on one knee to ask him.
It was a sweet personal touch to the ceremony, breaking away from formal traditions.
