Happy birthday to the Prince of Wales!
Prince Charles celebrated his 72nd birthday on Saturday, Nov. 14, when the British Royal Family paid tribute to heir to the throne. As per tradition, the royals marked the family milestone with social media tributes and throwback pictures.

For Queen Elizabeth II's tribute, she chose two mother-son pictures with nearly seven decades having passed between them. In the first, a black-and-white shot, new mother Princess Elizabeth is seen holding an infant Charles, likely in early 1949. At the time, the Queen was 23 and still a few years away from the throne.
In the second picture (seen above), the Queen and the Prince of Wales share a hearty laugh while attending the 2016 Braemar Highland Gathering in Scotland. "Wishing The Prince of Wales a very happy birthday today!" the Royal Family's Instagram page captioned the tribute.
As for Prince William and Duchess Kate, they went with an all-smiles portrait of Charles at an event for the 75th anniversary of VJ Day in 2020. The Cambridge family likewise wished him a "very Happy Birthday."

In response to the wave of tributes, Charles shared a message through the Clarence House Instagram page. "Thank you for all the well wishes," he captioned a portrait against a floral backdrop.
Otherwise, the 72nd birthday was business as usual for the Prince of Wales, who arrived that day in Germany with Duchess Camilla. There, they attended the service for the National Day of Mourning (Volkstrauertag) — Germany's annual day of remembrance for victims of war and tyranny.
