Princess Diana brought attention to a non-profit organization that meant a lot to her, The HALO Trust. The charity removes landmines and debris and debris left behind by war. Sadly, the staff has been attacked.
HALO Trust Staff Killed
Prince Harry and Prince William have learned of some heartbreaking news coming from the charity that they hold close to their hearts. According to Hello!, ten HALO staff members have been killed. An armed group attacked the HALO mine clearance camp in Afghanistan, killing the brave and life-saving staffers.
Princess Diana brought attention to the Trust and bravely walked through the minefields in Angola only a few months before she passed. Following her visit, the Ottowa Mine Ban Treaty was signed demanding all countries to rid the earth of landmines.
Prince Harry himself returned to the various mine-riddled lands multiple times, following in his mother's footsteps. The Duke of Sussex served tours in Afghanistan and saw true danger, connecting with wounded soldiers and civilians alike. It was this experience combined with his meeting innocent lives crippled by landmines that inspired him to start Invictus games.
According to The New York Times, the Taliban have been fingered for the cruel and senseless attack but the Taliban spokesman denied this and condemned "attacks on the defenseless and view it as brutality." Ten were killed and the sixteen injured are currently being helped in the hospital.
Prince Harry and Prince William will be reuniting soon for the unveiling of Princess Diana's statue in honour of her 60th birthday.
