Prince William and Prince Harry Agree On Princess Diana Tribute
Princess Diana's sons Prince William and Prince Harry have worked together to honor her memory in countless ways and do their best to share their mother's legacy with the world. Hello! has just reported that Harry and William have given their consent for their mother's wedding dress to be put on display for the first time in over 25 years.
The dress has stirred up attention again after the designers were asked to assist in the recreation of the dress for the production of The Crown. The iconic dress was worn by "the People's Princess" during her 1981 Royal wedding to Prince Charles. It was originally created by David and Elizabeth Emanual out of silk taffeta with elegant billowing sleeves, bows, and a fitted bodice and antique Carrickmacross lace that belonged to Prince Charles' great grandmother Queen Mary.
The dress of course had the 7.6m (25ft) train that beautifully dragged behind Diana. The ivory silk tulle had 10,000 mother-of-pearl sequins embedded along with it and according to the designer David Emanuel, they sewed a small gold horseshoe into the dress. He told Hello!, "We only told her on the wedding day. She didn't know about the horseshoe for good luck, she was very touched. She was traditional."
The dress will be put on display in the Historical Royal Palaces at Kensington Palace for the "Royal Style In The Making" Exhibition. Diana's dress will also be in the company of the toile worn with the 1937 coronation dress of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.
The exhibition curator Matthew Storey described the collection as such: "Out summer exhibition at Kensington Palace will shine a spotlight on some of the greatest talents of British design, whose work has been instrumental in shaping the visual identity of the Royal family across the 20th century."
"While one of the highlights will undoubtedly be Diana, Princess of Wales's show-stopping Emanuel-designed dress - which goes on show at the palace for the first time in 25 years - we've got some real surprises up our sleeve for fashion fans."
