Prince George and Princess Charlotte have concluded their studies for the 2019-20 academic year. The two eldest Cambridge children are now set to head into summer break, while plans for fall education remain uncertain.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte have made it through a rather unconventional school year!

As Hello! reports, George, 6, and Charlotte, 5, concluded their studies for the 2019-20 academic year at their home on Friday, July 3. The young prince finished his junior year, while Charlotte completed Reception at Thomas's Battersea school.

The children had made the shift to homeschooling with their parents Prince William and Duchess Catherine as teachers when the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the closure of U.K. schools in March.

The same Hello! report notes that children in Reception Year 1 and 6 returned to in-person classes last month, but that Kensington Palace declined comment on whether or not Charlotte was among the students to return. It's thought that she remained at the Cambridge home at Anmer Hall, where the family has been living during lockdown.

Prince William and Kate Middleton's children are ready for summer

Kate Middleton previously spoke on her commitment to her new role as teacher, as well. In April, she even told BBC Breakfast that she had kept studies running secretly during the Easter Holidays. "Don't tell the children, we've actually kept it going through the holidays. I feel very mean," she joked.

During another chat with the BBC, the Duchess called the homeschooling setup "fun," and reflected on finding a balance between keeping the children informed about the COVID-19 crisis and trying not to frighten them. "Although you don't want to scare them and make it too overwhelming, I think it is appropriate to acknowledge it in the simple ways and age-appropriate ways," she added.

But the children will now have a more relaxed schedule as they and the Cambridge family take in the summer months in Norfolk. Prince George will turn 7 years old later in July, when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also likely share a new portrait of the future king.
