Prince Charles has arrived in Japan for the Ceremony of Enthronement of Emperor Naruhito. However, it looks like the special events taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday will be a solo affair for the royal, who looked great as he wore his full uniform. At the ceremony, he sat next to Princess Mary of Denmark and her husband Prince Frederick of Denmark, but Duchess Camilla was nowhere to be seen.

Duchess Camilla has a fear of flying

While in good company with about 200 heads of state and dignitaries attending the event, the Prince of Wales traveled to Tokyo by his lonesome. The reason: Duchess Camilla (71) has a fear of flying, which is the reason why she does not always go with her husband as he travels overseas for public engagements. The Duchess previously admitted to the fear and had to cut a visit to Australia short because of it in 2018. A Clarence House spokesperson commented at the time: "The Duchess does not like flying but I think she has to sometimes embrace that fear."

While the Prince of Wales is in Japan, Duchess Camilla has an engagement at home that is very close to her heart. She will open the new Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases and Brownsword Therapies Centre at the Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH) on Tuesday. The Duchess got involved with the cause in 1997, after she lost both her mother and her grandmother to Osteoporosis. She became President of the Royal Osteoporosis Society in 2011.
