Over half a century ago, Princess Margaret found herself struggling to fit in, in the shadow of her older sister Elizabeth. Now, Prince Harry whose older brother Prince William will one day become King, is in a similar position. However, Harry has decided to "step back" from senior royal duties and create a different life for himself and his family outside of the confines of the palace.

Robert Lacey, author of Majesty and Monarch, told People: "The younger-sibling syndrome is an enduring problem. The system has not found a way of giving them the recognition that they need." Noting that it only gets worse as the older sibling has children themselves. "Until Elizabeth produced heirs, Margaret was a possible future Queen. It is a family situation of conflict that goes back over generations," Lacey described to People.
Elizabeth and Margaret's relationship was tested
Margaret and Elizabeth's relationship was tested when their father became King and Elizabeth became next in line for the throne. Once Elizabeth became Queen, their relationship was tested further when Margaret wanted to marry Peter Townsend and the Queen asked them to wait. A similar rift can be seen between royal brothers, William and Harry.

Prince Harry is carving out a new path
According to royal sources, during the early days of Harry and Meghan's romance, William cautioned his brother against moving too quickly. Now, with last week's news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanting to "carve out a progressive new role withing this institution," some members of the royal family were left feeling hurt.
It seems to be that Harry is taking a stand against traditional royal family values and indeed making a new way for himself and his wife and son.
