• Meghan Markle just turned 42
  • Traditionally, messages of congratulation are sent from the royal palace
  • THIS is what happened this year

Members of the royal family seem to have decided against publicly wishing Meghan Markle a happy birthday this year as the Duchess of Sussex turns 42. Meghan and her husband Prince Harry infamously stepped away from the British royal family back in 2020 after a scathing interview with Oprah Winfrey. But that hadn't stopped them from wishing her a happy birthday in recent years. The palace has been sure to put out a birthday message on the regular.

Does Meghan even care at this point?

This is definitely a sign of the times within the royal family. When Meghan and Harry first moved to America, it was the late Queen Elizabeth II who would lead the birthday wishes to her. Sharing a post on the royal family's Instagram account, she said this: "Wishing The Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday." In the picture shared, Meghan was seen smiling with Queen Elizabeth during a royal outing. On that occasion, Prince William and Kate Middleton and King Charles and Camilla also sent their special birthday wishes to Meghan.

But now things have grown cold. Just one year later, things have turned completely around. Last year, similar happy birthday pictures and messages to Meghan were shared on Twitter, but their Instagram posts were notably different. Instead of sharing pictures of Meghan on their profiles, they instead shared their posts to Instagram Stories, which expire after 24 hours.

The official lack of congratulations simply means that new realities have been fully accepted. As far as Meghan and Harry are concerned, it's business as usual for them!
