Taylor Swift may have dropped two surprise albums this year, but according to the singer, that's all fans are getting! As Entertainment Tonight shares, Swift appeared on Monday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she addressed the rumours of a possible third album that have been swirling after fans noticed a cryptic word.
Swift on her "Easter eggs": "sometimes I take it too far"
Swift first shocked fans back in July when she announced her eighth album, folklore, just a day before it dropped. And then last week, she released another brand-new album recorded during quarantine, called evermore. But thanks to some "Swifties" noticing the word "woodvale" hidden on one of the album cover variants for folklore, there's been speculation that Swift could possibly have a third surprise album planned!
"This takes a bit of explanation. So, I tend to be sort of annoyingly secret-agenty about dropping clues and hints and Easter eggs," the singer said when asked. "It’s very annoying, but it’s fun for fans and it’s fun for me because they like to pick up on things. And they’ll notice lots of things in music videos and photos or whatever. Sometimes I take it too far and make a mistake."
Swift reveals that "woodvale" was folklore's "code name"
Swift then went on to explain what "woodvale" actually is. As it turns out, it's the result of her wanting to keep the album's actual title under wraps until it was released. "I came up with a fake code name that had the same amount of letters as folklore. Chose a random name. I chose Woodvale," she revealed.
As for why the word mysteriously appeared on the cover of her first surprise album, Swift chalks it up to a simple mistake! "I wanted to see how it would look on the album covers, I mocked them up, and then decided I don’t actually want to have a title on the album covers," she continued. "[Then] we forgot to take the fake code name off of one of them."
Swift says she's "so exhausted" following evermore
Swift was extra careful not to leave any accidental "Easter eggs" behind for her second surprise album after fans honed in on this design slip-up! "Evermore had a code name. It was November," she revealed. "But we remembered to take it off all the mock-ups of the album covers before we released it this time. We learned our lesson."
Even though Kimmel suggested titles for a hypothetical third surprise album, it's likely that it will be some time before more new music from Swift drops! The singer also released a Disney+ concert documentary about folklore, and has begun to re-record her old albums, using a commercial to debut a snippet of her new version of "Love Story." "I’m so tired," Swift admitted. "I’m so exhausted. I’ve tired myself out."
