Following a $300 million dollar deal with Big Machine Records, Scooter Braun gained the rights to all of Taylor Swift's first five albums, making it impossible for her to do what she wanted with her own songs.
As of November 1st, Swift is now legally able to record all of her own music in any way she sees fit, and fans are over the moon about this win!

In a major turn for Taylor Swift, who notoriously called out Scooter Braun for gaining ownership over her first five albums, the musician is now able to record any of her many songs!
Braun, who gained ownership of Swift's first five albums last year when he signed a deal with Big Machine Records, is now forced to give over the rights to her music, and as of November 1st, Swift is now able to legally do what she pleases with her own songs.
News of the acquisition broke out in June 2019, and Swift publicly announced that she was unable to do a mash-up of songs because she legally didn't own any of her own music.
After fighting for her rights, Swift was able to create a new contract that as of November 2020, Braun no longer has a say in what she can, or can't do with her songs.

Last year, Swift said of the new contract she had plans to re-record her five albums while appearing on Good Morning America.
"It's something that I'm very excited about doing," she said. "Because my contract says that starting November 2020, I can record albums one through five all over again. I'm very excited about it."
She continued, "I think that artists deserve to own their work. I just feel very passionately about that."
Swift fans showed their excitement and support for Swift, while this ongoing battle has been finally put to rest.
