Britney Spears is able to make her own legal decisions for the first time in her life! As Entertainment Tonight declared on Thursday, a judge legally declared that Spears can control her financial affairs, which marks a major victory for the star.
Spears ruled competent to handle finances by herself
Spears used to have her money handled by her father, Jamie Spears, who served as her conservator for years. Now that her legal battle has come to an end though, she is able to make decisions independently. This means she can do things such as buy a house and conduct legal business without prior approval.
It was Judge Brenda Penny who made the official ruling on Thursday. "The court further finds and orders that Britney Jean Spears has the ability to execute documents transacting business on her own behalf and that any previous order entered by this court regarding restricting her ability to sign estate plan documents revoked," Penny declared in the official document.
Spears' conservatorship dictated what she could do with her life, and even her body. The singer made a social media post sharing how she celebrated the monumental win, mentioning that she enjoyed a glass of champagne for the first time. Her fiancé, Sam Asghari, has also shared that their future wedding plans are up to her. It's great to see Spears continue to move forward with her life now that her independence has been legally recognized!
