  • Royal visit draws criticism
  • Praise from the mayor
Prince Harry (40) and Duchess Meghan (43) visited the Pasadena Convention Center on Friday, where evacuees from the Eaton fire are being housed. Their visit has sparked a heated debate about their motives, with one well-known actress leading the criticism.

Controversy over royal support

Justine Bateman, known for her role in the '80s series 'Family Ties,' sharply criticized the couple on X, calling them "disaster tourists." She wrote: "They are "touring the damage"? Are they politicians now? They don't live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists."

Bateman went on to compare the royal couple to "ambulance chasers" and described their visit as a "repulsive photo op."

Controversy over royal support

While Justine Bateman has been critical, other voices have praised Harry and Meghan’s commitment. Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo lauded the couple’s heartfelt gesture in an interview with Fox 11.

He shared a story about Harry bringing a doughnut to a man who didn’t recognize him, to which the man responded: "If you ever run for office, I’ll vote for you." Such gestures are seen by many as signs of genuine compassion.

Harry and Meghan’s relief efforts in Pasadena

The royal couple has been actively involved in various relief efforts in the region. At the Pasadena Convention Center, they met with firefighters and families affected by the fire. Videos on X show Meghan hugging those impacted by the disaster.

They also helped distribute food for the charity World Central Kitchen, founded by Spanish chef José Andrés. The organization provides hot meals in crisis zones, and Harry and Meghan are long-time supporters.

In addition to providing direct aid, the couple has opened their home in Montecito as a refuge for friends affected by the fires, according to 'People.' Their Archewell Foundation also donated essential supplies to those in need.

Despite criticism from Justine Bateman and others, the couple’s efforts have made a significant contribution to supporting fire victims in California. Meanwhile, the launch of Meghan’s new Netflix series, 'With Love, Meghan,' has been postponed to allow her to focus on relief efforts.
