As EW reported, Shahidi will be the first woman of colour to play the Disney fairy on screen. She joins the 2021 live-action take on the classic Peter Pan story, which has so far also cast Jude Law as "Captain Hook" and child actors Ever Anderson as "Wendy" and Alexander Molony as "Peter."
It's also another of Disney's many live-action film updates. Most recently, classic titles including Mulan, Dumbo, and The Jungle Book have been remade, some also using digital animation. Others, such as Robin Hood, are also slated for the coming years.
