- Criminal Minds is getting rebooted
- Matthew Gray Gubler turned the series down
- Here's why the "Spencer Reid" actor said no
Criminal Minds fans are getting excited for the revival series. This week, huge news came that six original stars are expected to join the show. But "Dr. Spencer Reid" actor Matthew Gray Gubler isn't one of them, and fans are just crushed.
Why did Matthew Gray Gubler reject Criminal Minds reboot?
"Reid" was a fan-favourite on Criminal Minds, and some fans are even saying they won't watch a reboot without him.
So why did he say no? The cast news from Deadline noted that Gubler said "he was ready to move on after playing Spencer Reid for 15 years."
So far, that's all we know. The 41-year-old actor has not yet addressed the news on social media.
But it's true. He spent a solid 15 years as BAU criminal profiler "Spencer Reid," so you can't blame him too much if he's heading in a new direction.
Also interesting:
Gubler acted in all 15 seasons of Criminal Minds, which kept him fairly busy outside of a few film roles and voice acting parts.
Regardless, it's disappointing news for fans. But we'll still likely see Paget Brewster, A.J. Cook, Joe Mantegna, Adam Rodriguez, Aisha Tyler, and Kirsten Vangsness back in their roles.
The Paramount+ revival is expected to have a 10-episode first season, but nothing is official just yet.
