- A Criminal Minds reboot series is in the works
- Six cast members are reportedly returning
- One big star has turned down the revival
It's good news and bad news for Criminal Minds fans. A solid lineup of original cast members is expected to star in a new reboot series. But one fan-favourite won't be returning.
Criminal Minds reboot cast has six actors returning
Let's do the bad news first. The cast update comes from Deadline, who says Criminal Minds legend Matthew Gray Gubler has passed on reprising his role as "Dr. Spencer Reid." Fans won't like that one...
But the outlet says six actors are expected to join once behind-the-scenes details are sorted out. They are: Paget Brewster ("Prentiss"), A.J. Cook ("JJ"), Joe Mantegna ("Rossi"), Adam Rodriguez ("Alvez"), Aisha Tyler ("Lewis"), and Kirsten Vangsness ("Garcia").
So, most of the final Criminal Minds cast will likely be back for the Paramount+ revival. Another omission, however, is "Matt Simmons" actor Daniel Henney.
He was a main cast member in the final three seasons, but Henney now stars on The Wheel of Time. It looks like that role will keep him busy, but the report notes a guest role could be possible.
Also interesting:
The new report makes it sound like the 10-episode revival is still a ways away and far from official, but this is by far the biggest news since the new Criminal Minds was first announced in February 2021.
Until this week, fans had actually feared the revival was cancelled, after star Paget Brewster warned it appeared to be "dead." But the Paramount president recently confirmed it is "alive and well," and now the cast is taking shape.
Criminal Minds aired 15 seasons before the series finale in early 2020.
