The Umbrella Academy Powers

The smash-hit Netflix show The Umbrella Academy centers a dysfunctional family of supernatural kids simply trying to prevent the apocalypse. Yeah, the apocalypse is a little bit their fault but at least they do their best to try and make it right!

Each "Hargreeves" sibling has a unique power, this is each of their powers explained.

The backstory behind the strange family begins on October 1st, 1989, when 43 women all over Earth gave birth at the same time... the problem is, none of them were even the slightest bit pregnant at the beginning of the day!

Odd billionaire "Sir Reginald Hargreeves" adopted 7 of the children to form an elite superhero team...

"Sir Reginald Hargreeves" trained his adoptive children to form a highly skilled (although terribly neglected and mistreated) group of super soldiers. When he unveiled his team "The Umbrella Academy" to the world, he used them to fight crime and build a famous public persona.

Sadly, "Sir Reginald Hargreeves" put so much effort into training them and experimenting on them that he never gave them love, affection, or even names. He simply ranked them by their usefulness and numbered them from one to seven, it was their robot nanny who gave them each a name, except for "Number Five".

These are their powers.

The leader of "The Umbrella Academy" is "Luther" a.k.a. "Number One." He has super strength, durability, is able to fling bad guys away like boogers, and also withstand almost any attack. He also has grown in size with hair all over his body after his father risked his life by going on a solo mission and was forced to give him a gorilla serum to save him from death.

"Diego Hargreeves" is able to manipulate the trajectory of objects he throws, preferably his knives. He is a highly-skilled vigilante that is able to dodge bullets and take out countless bad guys at the same time, using his impressive martial artistry. 

"Allison Hargreeves" has the impressive ability to manipulate people simply by stating the phrase "I heard a rumor..." and they bend to her will. She can convince people to blow their own heads up, shoot their friends, and even fall in love with her.

This tool comes in handy in dangerous situations and in battle but unfortunately, when she uses it in her own life it causes her trouble as it leaves her feeling quite empty and as if nothing in her life is real. 

"Klaus" is able to communicate with the dead (when he is sober) and even conjure them to help him. His brother "Ben" helps him perform tricks to convince people "Klaus" is a God. "Ben" and "Klaus's" former military team are conjured to help him fight against bad guys as "Klaus" himself is not very skilled in combat.

"Number Five" has a particularly neat power in that he can teleport short and long distances at will. He can also travel through time although he has not mastered this skill and accidentally trapped himself alone in the post-apocalypse. After over 40 years alone, he is recruited by and works for "The Commission" until he rebels and goes back in time in an attempt to save his family and the world.

In doing so, he accidentally turns back into his 13-year-old body, with his almost 60-year-old mind. Yikes!

"Ben Hargreeves" has one of the most peculiar powers. He summons terrifying, super strong, and super long eldritch tentacles from his stomach. Tragically, "Ben" was killed while on a mission although he has stayed alongside his brother "Klaus" who is able to communicate with the dead. The two are very close and have a hilarious repertoire.

"Klaus" learns he is able to summon the dead when "Ben" punches him and saves his brothers from falling rubble.

"Vanya Hargreeves" has one of the most tragic storylines in that her powers were suppressed with drugs and her older sisters' mind manipulation power because her father was too scared of her potential. "Vanya" can absorb sound and use it to her own advantage. She can produce blasts, energy, forcefields, change matter, summon weather, use telekinesis, resuscitate, and even fly!

Her journey is a long one as she was unable to hone her skills when she was young and not allowed to participate with her siblings in training. 

It is "Vanya's" powers and abilities that drive the storylines of both seasons, her history is one of the most complicated and interesting.
