'NCIS' Season 19: What We Know So Far

At the end of season 18, NCIS viewers were left with a huge cliffhanger! "Gibbs" (Mark Harmon) was suspended indefinitely and one of the last scenes of season 18 shows "Gibbs" going on his boat's maiden voyage. But as the boat sails away, it exploded! Just before the episode ended, however, "Gibbs" was seen swimming away. Although no details of the 19th season are known as far as the plot is concerned, it is clear that this storyline has to be explained.

Why did "Gibbs‘" boat explode? And what happens next to our beloved special agent? What led to the explosion could possibly be explained in a flashback. The 18th season started with some episodes that were scheduled in the past.

There have also been major cast shake-ups...

As far as the team of investigators at NCIS is concerned, they will probably have to adapt without "Gibbs" as their team leader. We could also possibly see a familiar face return! Coté de Pablo a.k.a. "Ziva" is rumored to return during the hustle and bustle to try and find "Gibbs".

As for the cast of the 19th season, we can definitely look forward to Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Rocky Carroll, and David McCallum all returning to the series. NCIS fans can also look forward to newcomers. Someone has to take on "Gibbs'" role as team leader, "Agent Jack Sloanes" (Maria Bello) and "Agent Bishops" (Emily Wickersham) spaces must also be filled.

Agent "Bishop" (Emily Wickersham) announced her surprising leave in the final episode of season 18, leaving fans in shock as it was expected that "Bishop" and "Torres" (Wilmer Valderrama) were finally going to get together. Luckily, Wilmer explained to fans that they would finally be getting the answers about "Torres" and "Bishop" they have been waiting for. 

So both "Jack Sloane" (Maria Bello) and "Bishop" must have their roles filled for the new season. A few new cast members have been confirmed to take over...

One of the two new actors added to the major cast is Katrina Law! She was featured in the final episodes of season 18 and will now be a part of the full-time team. Deadline described her character as an agent who "specializes in hostage negotiations and handles daily high-risk operations with skill and precision."

"Sharp, athletic and tough, she was raised by a single mother and had to fight for everything in life and is damn good at it. Fiercely tenacious and with a wry sense of humor, Jessica is married to a stay-at-home dad who is raising their infant son."

You may recognize Katrina from Hawaii Five-0 and Arrow. And the biggest name added to the cast is...

Gary Cole was added "FBI Special Agent Alden Park" for the 19th season! You may recognize Gary from his countless hits like Office Space, The West Wing, Veep, Desperate Housewives, Enterouge, Suits, F is for Family and Chicago Fire. Gary will be playing a main role while Mark Harmon is missing. 

The series has not begun shoot but will be premiering in the fall of 2021 and will be switching to Monday nights instead! The new series NCIS: Hawaii will be premiering directly after the new season of NCIS.

 Showrunner Steven D. Binder told Entertainment Weekly "With the addition of Gary Cole and Katrina Law to the cast, this is already shaping up to be one of the best seasons yet."

The new season could not come sooner!
