- A prequel to 'NCIS' is coming
- It's all about "Gibbs"
- HE embodies the special agent
The popular crime series 'NCIS' is getting an exciting prequel with 'NCIS: Origins', which sheds light on the early years of "Leroy Jethro Gibbs". Mark Harmon (73), who played the role of "Gibbs" in the main series for 19 seasons, returns in the spin-off - but only as a narrator. Someone else slips into the role of the young "Gibbs" ...
Austin Stowell plays a young "Gibbs" in 'NCIS' prequel
In fact, Austin Stowell (39), known from films such as 'Whiplash' and 'Bridge Of Spies', takes on the role of the young "Gibbs" in the prequel. The 'NCIS' universe has already teased his appearance with a video showing the actor in make-up, where he transforms into the popular character.
The plot of the new series is set in 1991, when "Gibbs" has just been appointed a special agent. Shortly before, he had lost his wife and daughter in an assassination attempt by a Mexican drug lord, which severely affected his mental stability.
Despite this burden, "Gibbs" takes up his duties at the fledgling 'NCIS' headquarters at Camp Pendleton in California and works under the direction of the experienced "Mike Franks", played by Kyle Schmid (40).
New characters and familiar faces in 'NCIS: Origins'
In addition to Austin Stowell and Kyle Schmid, 'NCIS: Origins' brings a number of new characters into play. Mariel Molino (31) plays "Special Agent Lala Dominguez", Daniel Bellomy (29) embodies "Special Agent Granville 'Granny' Dawson", and Diany Rodriguez (42) can be seen as Special Agent "Vera Strickland".
Also starring are Tyla Abercrumbie (38) as Field Operation Support Officer "Mary Jo Sullivan", Caleb Foote (30) as Special Agent "Benjamin 'Randy' Randolf", Robert Taylor (61) as "Jethro's" father "Jackson Gibbs", Lori Petty (60) as forensic scientist "Dr. Lenora Friedman" and Bobby Moynihan (47) as chemist and head of the forensics lab, "Woodrow 'Woody' Browne".
Challenges of the series
The new series has to clarify a number of questions, including why "Gibbs" is telling the story about his father now. After all, it was claimed in earlier seasons of the main series that "Gibbs" had no contact with his father at the time.
Mark Harmon also serves as an executive producer on 'NCIS: Origins', while his son Sean Harmon (36), who played the young "Gibbs" in flashbacks of the original series, is involved as a producer.
Start date of 'NCIS: Origins'
'NCIS: Origins' will premiere on October 14, 2024 on the US channel CBS. We can't wait!
