Mark Harmon, Rocky Carroll, Lauren Holly, Stacy Edwards, and Jayne Brook all starred in the crime procedural drama NCIS. But it turns out they actually knew each other long before that.
All five actors previously had roles in the iconic medical drama Chicago Hope, which aired between 1994 and 2000 and had a huge following.
NCIS star Mark Harmon: "Dr. Jack McNeil" in Chicago Hope
NCIS lead Mark Harmon, whose sons also work in show business, played Special Agent "Leroy Gibbs" on NCIS from 2003 until 2021. In Chicago Hope, however, he slipped into a completely different role at the time. For 95 episodes, he was known as "Dr. Jack McNeil," who worked with other doctors at the fictitious Chicago Hope Hospital.
Harmon's co-star Rocky Carroll, who appeared on NCIS in 2007 for the first time in the role of "Leon Vance", kept Mark Harmon company on Chicago Hope from 1996 until 2000. The actor played the doctor "Dr. Keith Wilkes".
NCIS star Lauren Holly in Chicago Hope
The third of the bunch is Lauren Holly, also known as "Jenny Shepard", who was part of NCIS from 2005 to 2008. She also previously appeared on Chicago Hope in the role of "Dr. Jeremy Hanlon" for 22 episodes.
Stacy Edwards, who played the guest role of "Janice Byers" on NCIS, became known in the medical drama community as "Dr. Lisa Catera". Jayne Brook also became known for her role as "Dr. Diane Grad" in Chicago Hope. She later came to the NCIS set for a guest role and had a reunion with her former co-stars Mark Harmon and Rocky Carroll.
In addition to the NCIS stars, two Criminal Minds actors also appeared in Chicago Hope. Thomas Gibson, who played "Aaron Hotchner", and Mandy Patinkin ("Jason Gideon") also played leading roles in the medical drama for some time.
