TV, film, and music star Conrad Janis has passed away. His manager shared the sad news with The New York Times. Janis died on March 1 in Los Angeles. He lived to be 94.
Mork & Mindy actor Conrad Janis dies
Born in New York in 1928, Conrad Janis enjoyed a long career as a character actor and jazz trombonist. He had over 100 screen credits ranging from the 1940s through the 2010s.
But his trademark role had to be "Fred McConnell" on Mork & Mindy. Janis played the father of "Mindy" (Pam Dawber) in the popular sitcom from 1978 to 1982.
Elsewhere, Janis was a frequent TV guest star, appearing on everything from The Waltons to The Jeffersons, St. Elsewhere, Frasier, and Murder, She Wrote.
In film, Conrad Janis is remembered as the father on the TV show within the Jim Carrey movie The Cable Guy. He was seen in other movies like Airport 1975, Brewster's Millions, and The Buddy Holly Story.
