MacGyver fans will be sad to know that the show is officially coming to an end! As Entertainment Tonight has reported, on Wednesday it was confirmed that the procedural drama's season 5 finale will be its last.
MacGyver fans' dedication commended by network president
MacGyver first aired in September 2016, and has been integral to CBS's Friday night programming. As Entertainment Tonight mentions, President of CBS Entertainment Kelly Kahl talked about being extremely grateful for the incredible work and dedication" the show's cast and crew have put in over the years. She also mentioned being grateful that the final episode of MacGyver felt worthy of the fans.
"The MacGyver team traveled far and wide to repeatedly save the world with little more than bubble gum and a paper clip and made this show distinctly their own," Kahl said. "We’re gratified we get to give this dedicated and loyal fan base the opportunity to say goodbye to their favorite characters in the thoughtful manner this series deserves."
MacGyver EP calls the show's remaining episodes "spectacular"
MacGyver executive producer Monica Macer also shared a special message! Mentioning that she only joined the show last year, she said she's been "amazed by the devotion and enthusiasm" of the cast and crew. She also shared she "can't wait" for MacGyver fans "to see our spectacular final episodes and the adventures that still await for Mac and the team at the Phoenix."
The series' first incarnation dates back to the '80s, with Richard Dean Anderson starring as the titular character. Decades later, the show was then rebooted and picked up by CBS, with Lucas Till playing a younger version of resourceful secret agent "MacGyver"! Levy Tran, Tristin Mays, and Henry Ian Cusick also star in the show, which will conclude on April 30 at 8 PM ET.
