Law & Order: SVU's upcoming crossover officially has an airdate! As Entertainment Tonight shares, NBC announced on Thursday that the 2-hour special is set to air in April, and sees two of the franchise's stars reunite on-screen for the first time in years!
Law & Order: SVU crossover leads into new spinoff
Law & Order: SVU's original team of Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay— who play "Elliot Stabler" and "Olivia Benson" are finally teaming up again. As Entertainment Tonight mentions, the two will come together for a special episode of Law & Order: SVU on April 1, which airs at 9 PM ET.
It was confirmed by Meloni last month that the duo's reunion will then continue into the pilot episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime, a brand-new spinoff starring Meloni! The series follows "Stabler" as he deals with the aftermath of a personal tragedy and rejoins the NYPD. Dylan McDermott and Tamara Taylor have also been cast on the show.
Law & Order reunion teased with behind-the-scenes pics
Law & Order: SVU fans may have a little while to wait before the reunion airs, but they've already had their first glimpse of "Benson" and "Stabler" back in action! Hargitay and Meloni have been teasing the exciting event since last month, sharing photos from the set on social media.
The Law & Order: SVU showrunner, Warren Leight, opened up about what it was like to see them team up again. "The moment Benson and Stabler had their first scene, everything fell into place," he told Entertainment Tonight via email in January. "I just wish we could have all gone to an opening party when it was over."
