"Benson" and "Stabler" are together again.

Over the weekend, the former Law & Order: SVU partners were reunited ahead of Christopher Meloni's return to the series. He'll soon rejoin Mariska Hargitay and the SVU cast to introduce a storyline heading into a new "Stabler" spin-off series titled Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Mariska Hargitay & Christopher Meloni's SVU reunion pictures

On Friday, Meloni first shared an Instagram picture captioned, "We are a little bit closer," showing himself and Hargitay in a black-and-white with masks removed for a socially-distanced selfie.

Not long after, Hargitay followed suit and gave fans a more colourful look at the duo's time together, presumably (and hopefully) on the set of SVU. "Now even closer... #EO," she wrote with the hashtag referencing their character names, "Elliot" and "Olivia."

"Stabler" returns to SVU before new show Organized Crime

Meloni exited SVU after season 12, but there've been big expectations for his return this season—SVU's 22nd. He was originally slated to return in the season premiere, but the pandemic thwarted those plans, as his return needs to line up with production of the new "Stabler" spin-off series, Organized Crime, which is expected to debut in 2021.

Previously, we'd seen Meloni reunite with the SVU cast for a virtual table read, but his return now appears to be closer than ever before. The actor also revealed that fans can expect to see "Benson" on Organized Crime at some point. Stay tuned for the return of "Stabler" to the Law & Order universe. New episodes of SVU air on NBC Thursdays.
