Almost 25 years after the first film Space Jam, the highly anticipated sequel is finally here! And the first look raises high hopes for fans!
Space Jam: A New Legacy First Look
Basketball legend LeBron James himself and Warner Bros. teamed up to finally bring the much-awaited sequel to life. We last saw Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Larry Johnson, and Bill Murray team up with "Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Pepé Le Pew, and Lola Bunny" to save the Looney Tunes from being abducted at taken to outer space.
The 1996 film was the highest-grossing basketball film of all time and became an instant family hit! Warner Bros. just released the first look at the new film Space Jam: A New Legacy! It looks like the film will have an all-star cast with Don Cheadle, Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, Draymond Green, and more!
In the images released, you can see a well-animated "Bugs Bunny," "Tweety Bird," and "Lola Bunny"! Fans are already praising "Lola Bunny's" modern look as a strong and less sexualized character. Fans of the original film will remember that "Lola" was actually the best member of the "Tune Squad" team!
Lebron had been tight-lipped about the project but now he is finally giving fans a peek! At his recent Lakers fame against the Denver Nuggets, the 4-time NBA champion said, "It's one of the biggest games, if not the biggest game, I've ever played in. The Goon Squad is probably the best team ever assembled in basketball history."
Fans are excited to see LeBron acting again too. He surprised audiences everwhere with his role as himself in Trainwreck. Judd Apatow told Entertainment Weekly, "Amy [Schumer] wrote LeBron into the script almost as a joke, because he was the dream person we thought we'd never get. Bill Hader said he was really funny and a great guy when he hosted SNL."
"One weekend, Bill and I took him to lunch and pitched him the idea for his character. He got it immediately. I thought if he wasn't funny we could get something out of him, but then he shows up and his acting is very strong and he has this hilarious take on how he wants to do it. He's funny from take 1!"
Space Jam: A New Legacy will follow James and his son who get sucked into the "Server-verse" by bad guy A.I. "G Rhythm" (played by Don Cheadle). LeBron has to recruit the "Tune Squad" to defeat the "Goon Squad" and help save his son from virtual reality!
The new movie is set to be released in theaters and on HBO Max on July 16th! Check out the first look of Space Jam: A New Legacy here!
