A CSI revival is still in the works today and word is that two former cast members are "closing in" on returning for the series.

We first heard that CSI was planning a comeback a year ago this time, but nothing official has been settled just yet. But today, there's an update that CBS—the show's former network—is "inching" closer to picking up the revival, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

CSI revival: Cast reportedly close to joining new series

As THR reports, former CSI stars William Petersen ("Gil Grissom") and Jorja Fox ("Sara Sidle") are "closing in on deals" to join the revival, which is being billed as a limited series. Petersen, 67, was a main star for nine CSI seasons, while Fox, 52, appeared in all 15 seasons.

In addition to these nearly done deals, actors Matt Lauria (Friday Night Lights), Paula Newsome (Chicago Med, Barry) and Mel Rodriguez (Getting On) are attached to play new characters. Original creators and producers Anthony Zuiker and Jerry Bruckheimer are also behind the still-developing project.

CSI: New reboot TV show still developing in 2021

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was one of TV's most popular series for the 15 years it aired, from 2000 to 2015. The limited series revival is expected to be a sequel to the main CSI, which spawned Miami, New York, and Cyber spin-offs.
