- Carrie Fisher wore a gold bikini in the Star Wars film Return of the Jedi
- Fisher admitted she didn't like the costume at all
- In interviews, Fisher spoke about the choice of clothes
Carrie Fisher's role as "Princess Leia" in Star Wars, one of the most successful movies of the eighties, made her world famous. She was a true sex symbol in her slave outfit in Return of the Jedi, but what many people don't know is that the actress herself did not like the legendary golden bikini at all.
Fisher offers candid comments on "stupid" slave bikini
Fisher's dislike of the outfit was revealed in a statement in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. A father of two had previously expressed shock that there was a children's action figure of "Princess Leia" in the bikini. Fisher then gave him the following advice. “Tell them that a giant slug captured me and forced me to wear that stupid outfit, and then I killed him because I didn't like it, she said. "And then I took it off."
Also interesting:
The actress was referring to a scene from Star Wars in which "Princess Leia" strangles the creature "Jabba" with her chain. She later admitted in an interview with NPR that she "was nearly naked, which is not a style choice for me. It wasn't my choice." Fisher isn't the only actress to later speak out about disliking a revealing costume, with Sharon Stone saying she was tricked into removing her underwear for a scene in Basic Instinct.
In Interview Magazine, Fisher also gave then-new Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley the following tip: “You should fight for your outfit. Don't be a slave like I was. You keep fighting against that slave outfit.” Apparently, Fisher's words were heard, because so far none of the other Star Wars actresses have had to appear in front of the camera in a bikini.
