Batwoman is changing course to adjust to the exit of "Batwoman" herself, actress Ruby Rose.

The news comes after Rose — who played "Kate Kane," a.k.a. the title role of "Batwoman" — shockingly exited the show after just one season. However, a new report revealed that the role of "Kate Kane" will not be recast.

Batwoman: Cast plans post-Ruby Rose's exit?

According to Variety, the CW and Warner Bros. are in the process of arranging to cast a new lead character for the series. Her name is "Ryan Wilder," and it's noted that she could be played by a woman of colour.

"Ryan Wilder" would assume the title role as "Batwoman," but she's otherwise separate from Rose's "Kate Kane." Per the report, her description is as follows:

"She's likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She's also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits.

"A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero."

Batwoman season 2 is coming in 2021

The CW renewed Batwoman for a second season in January. But following Rose's exit in May, it was unclear just how the superhero TV series would continue.

Batwoman's 20-episode first season received mixed to positive reviews. It also ended two episodes early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But season 2 is still scheduled for a January 2021 premiere date, which is when we'll get a first look at the new "Batwoman" / "Ryan Wilder."
