Today's date will always be a special day for Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson: On July 23 in 1986 the couple were married at Westminster Abbey, which means that today would have been their 34th wedding anniversary. The royal couple was divorced in 1996 after having separated amicably in 1992 already.

The couple welcomed their first child, Princess Beatrice in August 1988 and she was followed by her sister Eugenie in March 1990. And it was for the sake of their two daughters that they managed to remain close and friendly for the last 25 years.

Speaking to The New York Times in 2008, the Duke said the following about the relationship with his ex-wife: "We have managed to work together to bring our children up in a way that few others have been able to do and I am extremely grateful to be able to do that."

By now, both of their daughters are married themselves, with Beatrice actually tying the knot with her fiancé Eodardo Mapelli Mozzi only last week in a secret wedding ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at The Royal Lodge, Windsor.

The Royal Lodge is also where Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson self-isolated together during lockdown and Sarah marked their friendly relationship in a rare photo with Andrew, Eugenie and Beatrice that she posted to her Instagram account back in May.
