We now have video of one of the most wholesome moments mentioned in Oprah with Meghan and Harry.
During the interview, Duchess Meghan described a kind gesture The Queen made by offering to share a blanket with her during a car ride after their first engagement together in 2018. Only now has the moment been seen on video, as a woman just today discovered she had filmed it from across the street.
Video: Queen, Meghan blanket moment from Oprah interview
In the interview, Meghan spoke of how "wonderful" Queen Elizabeth always treated her, recalling a specific moment from 2018 that stuck with her. "We were in the car going between engagements, and [The Queen] has a blanket that sits across her knees for warmth. And it was chilly, and she was like, 'Meghan, come on,' and put it over my knees, as well."
Of the sweet moment, Meghan said: "It made me think of my grandmother, where she's always been warm and inviting and really welcoming." The car ride came after the pair's first joint engagement, which was in Cheshire in 2018, one month after Meghan's royal wedding to Prince Harry.
Woman discovered she filmed the Queen-Meghan moment
The video was filmed by Eileen Owens, who was watching the royals leave the engagement across the street from a pub owned by her husband. They are heard cheering and "awing" in the clip. According to Daily Mail, she "had no idea of the significance of that moment" until it made headlines during the Duchess's March 7 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The blanket story was a bright spot in an often heavy and troubling interview, which saw Meghan discuss racism within The Firm and Royal Family and the toll royal life took on her mental health. The Queen has since responded in a statement, which in part read: "The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately."
