We had known Prince Harry and James Corden had filmed together recently as the two were spotted riding a double-decker tour bus but we had no idea just how funny the two were together!
Prince Harry and James Corden's Tour Of Los Angeles
The host James Corden and Prince Harry have been longtime friends and James was even a guest at his Royal wedding to Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. James Corden has been living in Los Angeles for the past six years while filming The Late Show With James Corden so he invited Harry out for a tour of the city.
During the day with James, we learned so much about Prince Harry. First of all, he shocked James by letting him know he had never ridden an open-top bus before! He said he's "not really allowed to." On top of that, he hadn't been around the city much because "it's been lockdown. This is the first time I've had the chance to see LA."
Prince Harry and James have such a good repertoire and have a lot of fun together. James hilariously brought a cart of tea and snacks on fine dishes and mugs that ultimately crashed when their bus was braking for a stop causing the Royal to swear! James even shouted at the Prince, "Clean it up, Harry!"
Meghan Markle's Nickname For Prince Harry
James took Harry to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air house in hopes of pressuring Harry to buy it so he has a home base in Los Angeles as opposed to his slightly further home in Santa Barbara. Harry unexpectedly even asked to use the restroom at the house! James then took Harry's phone to get Meghan on the line.
"You'd be the Fresh Princess of Bel-Air! [Harry] dragged his heels. He's already used the bathroom, that's how at home he feels!" James said while trying to get Meghan Markle on board with the idea.
We even learned what Meghan calls Harry! She asked the Prince, "Haz, how's your tour of LA going?" which shocked James who said: "Haz, I didn't know we were calling you 'Haz' now." Harry hilariously answered "No, you're not my wife," and that James is "the worst tour guide in LA."
Interesting New Facts We Learned From Prince Harry
The two got up to all sorts of hijinks including doing a military-style obstacle course that Harry impressively handled with ease. James also got Harry to open up about a lot of personal things millions have wondered about. Here are some of the most interesting things we learned from Harry:
- Baby Archie's first word was "crocodile."
- Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip know how to zoom and Philip hangs up by slamming his laptop shut instead of hitting "leave meeting."
- Prince Harry calls Meghan "Meg" (And she calls him "Haz").
- Harry likes Jeopardy.
- Harry knows The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.
- Harry and Meghan fell in love by "The second date." Harry said, "I was starting to think 'wow, this is pretty special.' The way we hit it off with each other, we were just so comfortable in each other's company."
- Prince Harry has seen The Crown. "It's fictional. But it's loosely based on the truth." And Harry would want Damien Lewis to play him in The Crown.
Prince Harry's Reason For Stepping Down From Royal Life
Harry also got a bit serious about why he stepped back from Royal life. James asked him, "It's such a monumental decision, to have walked away from the Royal family. Why did you feel that that was necessary and that was the right thing to do for you and your family?"
Harry eloquently answered with, "It was never walking away, it was stepping back rather than stepping down. It was a really difficult environment as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like. It was destroying my mental health. [That] is toxic, so I did what any husband and what any father would do which is 'I need to get my family out of here' but we never walked away. Whatever decisions are made on that side [in the UK], I will never walk away. I'll always be contributing. My life is public service so wherever I am in the world it's going to be the same thing."
"My life is always going to be about public service and Meghan signed up for that and the two of us enjoy doing that. We're trying to bring some compassion and trying to make people happy and trying to change the world in any small way that we can."
He also added that he prefers hearing about the fictional Netflix series over the abusive and cruel news media. "I am way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family or my wife or myself. Because it's the difference between [The Crown] is obviously fiction, take it how you will. But this is being reported on as fact because you're supposedly news. And I have a real issue with that."
"Of course it's not strictly accurate, but loosely... it gives you a rough idea about that lifestyle and what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that."
Both Buckingham Palace and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement on Friday that Harry and Meghan won't be returning as working Royals.
According to Hello! Harry and Meghan released a statement saying, "As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organizations they have represented regardless of official role. We can all live a life of service. Service is universal."
It has been an exciting time for the Royal family as Harry's closest cousin Princess Eugenie just had her first child and both Meghan Markle and Zara Tindall are expecting children after having miscarriages. A whole new generation of Royal babies is growing!
Also, the world is on edge in anticipation for the Oprah Winfrey interview with Harry and Meghan to air on March 7th!
