Princess Eugenie: New baby pictures and name reveal
"We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank," Princess Eugenie wrote on Instagram, sharing two pictures of the family-of-three and one close-up of August.
"Thank you for so many wonderful messages," Eugenie added in the caption. "Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can't express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you."
The picture, she wrote, was taken "by our wonderful midwife. Thank you to the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy."
Princess Eugenie explains name August Philip Hawke
As for the names, Eugenie also explained the royal history in her and Jack's choices. In an Instagram story (screenshot by People), she wrote: "On his grandfather's birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy," referencing first Prince Andrew—whose birthday fell on Friday—and then Prince Philip, who is currently under observation in hospital.
Eugenie continued, "He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers." So, August was named after Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria, whose full name contained Augustus; Philip came from Prince Philip; and Hawke came from the Rev. Edward Hawke Brooksbank.
August Brooksbank was born in London on Feb. 9, at which time his parents shared only a close-up picture holding the hand of the newborn. They left the hospital on Feb. 12 and have since been home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
