While in Baghdad, Kingston worked in a role focusing on negotiating hostage situations and resolving conflicts. As reported by 'The Times', he utilized his "relentless optimism" to help free hostages and settle disputes among Iraq's diverse ethnic, religious, and tribal groups.

In 2004, Kingston narrowly avoided a fatal incident when a suicide bombing occurred at the only Anglican church in Iraq, resulting in the deaths of 22 individuals. Reverend Canon Andrew White, also known as the "Vicar of Baghdad" for his decade-long service at the church and a survivor of the bombing, described Kingston as "an exceptional young man" who "makes things happen."

According to 'Harper’s Bazaar', Thomas Kingston previously dated Pippa Middleton, Kate Middleton's younger sister. Some cozy photos of them at Cheltenham Racecourse in 2013 caused quite a buzz. British media also reported that he had a relationship with one of Prince William’s exes, Natalie Hicks-Löbbecke, before getting engaged to Gabriella.
