Buckingham Palace revealed that Her Majesty actually sent a private message of condolence to Dame Vera's family on Thursday. Prince Charles and his wife Duchess Camilla posted a loving tribute on their social media accounts.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall shared a series of photographs with their followers on Instagram and Twitter, including one of the singer receiving her honour at Buckingham Palace. The post was captioned: "Remembering Vera Lynn."
Lynn's death was confirmed by her family on Thursday. In a statement, they said: "The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain's best-loved entertainers at the age of 103."
