Princess Eugenie gave birth to her first child with husband Jack Brooksbank on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The first royal baby of 2021 was a boy whose name we're still waiting to find out. But several other details about the newborn are already known. Here's what to know about the royal baby, from how his title will work to where he stands in line to the British throne.

Eugenie and her husband of two years, Jack Brooksbank, welcomed their son on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Portland Hospital in London. Buckingham Palace announced the news that evening, sharing that the baby weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and that he and his mother were "both doing well."

The Royal Family's announcement said, "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news." The baby is the ninth great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and the first grandchild of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

Princess Eugenie's royal baby: Line of succession? Title?

Princess Eugenie is the daughter of Prince Andrew, the Queen's second eldest son, so the newborn stands 11th in line to the British throne, one spot behind his mother. Other royals including Princess Anne and Prince Edward now stand another number lower as a result.

As for a title, the child will not initially receive one, as they are passed down through the male line, and Jack Brooksbank does not hold a title. However, as Hello! reports, the Queen could change this, but only by granting a title—such as an earldom—to Jack.

A first picture of the newborn was also shared by Princess Eugenie hours after his birth, showing the new parents holding their son's hand. The royal mother captioned the post with a series of blue heart emojis.

We're still waiting on a name for Eugenie and Jack's son. Some suspect that Prince Philip could be honoured somewhere in the child's name, owing to Eugenie's close bond with her grandfather, but time will have to tell. Previously, other royals have waited weeks to reveal their children's names, while others have done so within a few days.
