The London Marathon, which was expected to take place on April 26, has been postponed until October 4 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Prince Harry was due to attend, since he has been patron of the London Marathon Charitable Trust for eight years.

This is the first time that the event has been postponed, since it was established in 1981. Hugh Basher, the marathon's director, explained in a statement that "the world is in an unprecedented situation, grappling with a global pandemic of COVID-19, and public health is everyone’s priority."

The London Marathon was Prince Harry's next planned outing in the United Kingdom, after officially stepping back as senior royal member along with his wife Meghan. Last year, they cheered on runners at the event, while Meghan was pregnant with their now 10-month-old son, baby Archie.

Those who had a place in the marathon will still have the chance to use their place for the rescheduled event that will take place the first days of October. Runners who decide not to participate anymore or will be unable to attend, will receive full refunds.
