- Prince Albert surprises with change
- He didn't warn of the amendments
- THIS is different with the succession to the throne
Prince Albert (65) has been head of the Monaco royal family since 2005. ascended the throne after the death of his father, Prince Rainier. Next in line to the throne is Albert's son Prince Jacques (8). Albert could hand over the crown to Jacques as of his 18th birthday.
Should something happen to Albert beforehand, however, and Jacques is still a minor, Princess Charlène (45) would step in as Prince Regent - but that's changing now!
Prince Albert: THIS was changed in the line of succession
Prince Albert changed the throne succession arrangement last summer, as 'Closer' reports. Rather than Charlène, a council of regency would now take over in an emergency after the amendment.
Also interesting:
This would consist of seven people, including Albert's wife and his sisters. But what is the reason for this secret change? As royal expert Michael Begasse explains to 'RTL', Albert probably wants to be considerate of his wife first and foremost.
For me, Albert is acting as a responsible Prince in that, in the unlikely event of his own death or abdication, he will take care of business until his son Jacques comes of age. Then - which hopefully no one wishes - Charlène would also have very, very different worries than running any government business," says Begasse.
