Oprah Winfrey has given behind-the-scenes details on her big interview from last month with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan. This week, Winfrey herself commented on the interview and shared the one thing the Duke and Duchess told her before their sit-down talk. Here's what she had to say.

Even Oprah Winfrey was surprised by what she heard in her interview with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan.

This week, Winfrey joined Nancy O'Dell on TalkShopLive, where she revealed new details about Oprah with Meghan and Harry. The TV host said she was "surprised" that Meghan went "all the way" with her damaging accusations against the Royal Family, and she shared what she knew heading into the interview.

What Harry and Meghan told Oprah before the interview

According to ET, Oprah said she typically meets interview subjects beforehand, but that wasn't possible for her talk with the Duke and Duchess. As a result, they only texted, and Harry and Meghan informed her only of their goal: "the truth."

Oprah explained: "I didn't see Meghan and Harry before but I did text them and say, 'Intention is very important to me. Tell me what your intention is so that we can be aligned in our goal.'

"Our shared intention was the truth," Winfrey continued. "They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be as truthful as possible."

In her new interview, Oprah added that she "had no idea" her talk with Meghan and Harry "would have the reverberating impact that it has had and continues to have." But she believes the interview was so "powerful" because the Duke and Duchess were "as vulnerable, as truthful as they were."

Prince Harry has reunited with the Royal Family since the Oprah interview.

Oprah with Meghan and Harry set off a wave of controversy for the Royal Family and became a talking point for weeks after it aired on March 7. Following the serious accusations of racism made against the royals and The Firm, Buckingham Palace released a statement that said:

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately." There hasn't been an official follow-up since that time. Last week, Prince Harry also reunited with his family for the first time since the interview for the funeral of Prince Philip.
