Meghan Markle's gift to Prince William during her first Christmas with the royal family certainly showed that she was all in! As People shares, in the tell-all book about Meghan and Prince Harry's lives, Finding Freedom, authors Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie revealed the hilarious present that the Duchess of Sussex gave her brother-in-law to be.

Meghan "wanted to impress" with royal novelty gift

Meghan Markle wanted to impress her new in-laws during the unique gift exchange! That's because as People mentions, the royal family has a longstanding tradition of swapping humorous gifts with one another. Some past gag gifts royals have received include the "Grow Your Own Girlfriend" kit Prince Harry was given by Duchess Kate, and the leather toilet seat Prince Charles got from Princess Anne!

Meghan's first royal Christmas came in 2017, a year after she and Prince Harry were engaged. The authors of Finding Freedom share that the gift-giving process itself is "an audition like no other, and [Meghan] wanted to impress her future royal relatives. "To that end, Meghan's biggest challenge was finding the perfect novelty gifts to amuse her new extended family," they explained.

Meghan had some pun fun with William's gag gift

Meghan's dedication paid off, as the royals ultimately found enjoyment in her present for the Duke of Cambridge! "At least one of her gifts was a huge hit—a spoon for William that had 'cereal killer' embossed on the shallow bowl end of the utensil," Durand and Scobie shared. It was recently revealed that Meghan herself leaked information to the authors of Finding Freedom, which was originally thought to be completely unauthorized.

This year, Meghan and Harry won't be spending Christmas with the royal family, which Queen Elizabeth II has said makes her feel "sad". As a source shared, since the couple is currently living in the United States, they're planning to celebrate from their California home instead! Maybe in 2021 Meghan will have the opportunity to participate in the royal gag gift exchange again!
