- Meghan Markle is facing a defamation lawsuit
- Her half-sister Samantha Markle is suing her
- She alleges Meghan lied about their family story
The drama never seems to end with the Markles. Duchess Meghan is estranged from her father and two half-siblings, who often go out of their way to bash her in the media.
Now, Meghan's half-sister Samantha Markle is suing her for defamation. She wants $75,000 because of supposedly false claims Meghan made about her, her upbringing, and the Markle family.
Why Meghan Markle's half-sister is suing her
By the look of court documents (via Page Six), Samantha accuses Meghan of lying about barely knowing her, about practically raising herself as a child, and about their father Thomas Markle Sr.
Samantha says she has lost work, money from book sales, and suffered distress from damaging claims Meghan made in her interview with Oprah Winfrey and the book Finding Freedom.
Here's what the legal doc says, per Page Six: "The defamatory implication is that Plaintiff had no relationship whatsoever with her sister Meghan, they were virtual strangers and that Plaintiff has created a lucrative career selling false stories to tabloids and television programs when she knows nothing about Defendant's childhood."
Also interesting:
Samantha Markle further alleges that Meghan lied about having "essentially raised herself from virtual poverty" and that "she was forced from the age of 13 to work in a series of low-paying jobs."
It sounds like this could get messy, if the lawsuit isn't thrown out altogether. And Meghan Markle's lawyer has already responded. He told TMZ it is a "baseless and absurd lawsuit," and they plan to give it "the minimum attention necessary, which is all it deserves."
Samantha Markle, who previously wrote a book about Meghan, is 14 years older than her half-sister. They share the same father, Thomas Markle Sr.
