Prince William (42) and Princess Kate (42) have paid a touching tribute to the late pizza vendor Peter Morris. Morris, the owner of the Little Dragon Pizza Van, died of cancer at the age of just 47. The royals had met him in Wales last year and expressed their condolences in a moving letter to his widow.

The Prince and Princess of Wales wrote a moving tribute to Morris, according to the British newspaper 'The Sun'. In a letter of condolence on Kensington Palace stationery, Prince William expressed his deepest sympathy to Peter's widow Tracey. The letter was read out at the funeral.

"I wanted to write to express how terribly sorry Catherine and I were to hear the very sad news about your husband, Pete, and to send you our deepest sympathies," Prince William wrote. "We can only begin to imagine what an immense hole he will leave in your life and my heart goes out to you and your family."

He added: "We know that Pete was a hugely dedicated and highly valued member of the community which has been evident from the response to his passing."

Widow touched by Williams and Kate's gesture

According to 'The Sun', the letter will be framed for Peter's daughters, who are 5 and 8 years old. Tracey, 40, told the newspaper that the royals' kind gesture "a massive surprise" was.

"I don’t even know how they found out Pete had died. We had so many letters from people who loved Pete but the one from William and Kate was very special," Tracey said.

How Peter Morris met William and Kate

The Little Dragon Pizza Van's Instagram account announced Peter's death at the end of May with a black and white photo of him at work. "We are saddened to inform you about the loss of our owner, Peter Morris," the post began, adding that Peter founded the business in 2016.

"His dedication, enthusiasm, and effort have shaped the business into what it is today. Over the past 8 years Pete has given everyone great memories and great food," it continued.

Kate had her own cancer diagnosis announced publicly on March 22, just two months before Peter's death. Peter had beaten cancer of the esophagus, but four months after meeting Princess Kate and Prince William, doctors discovered the disease in his adrenal gland and liver.

The royals met Peter in April 2023 when they bought pizza for members of the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, who risk their lives to protect hikers and climbers in the nearby mountain region. The couple ordered 22 pizzas from the Little Dragon Pizza Van, including pepperoni, margarita, barbecue chicken, and goat cheese.

In a conversation with 'People' after his royal meeting, Peter said: "The princess asked if we make our own dough and said that they love making pizzas with their children."

"Making pizza for the future king and queen is surreal," added Peter, who served Kate and William together with his colleague Sharon Stokes. "Prince William said he'd heard of us — which is quite surreal. People come from far and wide — it's the quality of the food and the views!"
