Prince George is 7 years old already! (Well, almost.) Royal fans have received a gift just a little bit early, as Kensington Palace just released a birthday portrait a few hours ahead of George's July 22 birthday.
Prince George Turns 7: See his birthday portrait
The Cambridges kept alive the tradition of sharing birthday photos of their children with a first Instagram post that came in the late hours of Tuesday night — the day before George's birthday.
"Sharing a [photo] taken by The Duchess ahead of Prince George's seventh birthday tomorrow!" they captioned the Instagram post. The birthday boy is seen sporting a green polo shirt and a big smile for the portrait.
As the caption indicates, Duchess Kate served as photographer during the birthday month photoshoot, which took place earlier in July. While she continues to produce wonderful family photos and portraits, some royal fans have expressed sadness at not actually seeing the Duchess in such pictures over the past few months.
Duchess Kate keeps her photography tradition going
Other gems taken by Kate include Prince William and Prince Charles's candid Father's Day 2020 portrait as well as the shots of the Duke of Cambridge with the children on his birthday (which overlapped with Father's Day in 2020). But the future queen was nowhere to be seen in the photos, because she was behind the camera.
It's expected that, like usual, George's birthday will be a private celebration limited to the family. George has additional reason to celebrate, too. Earlier this month, he and his sister Princess Charlotte concluded their studies for the 2019-20 academic year and are now free for the summer. A report also revealed that the children have taken to work in the family's chicken coop at Anmer Hall, where they've spent the lockdown period.
Happy 7th birthday to Prince George!
