Every Ballet Lover's Dream
Duchess Catherine's (37) day out yesterday was every ballet lovers' dream! Kate visited the costume department and met costumiers at work, met Royal Ballet principal dancers Lauren Cuthbertson, Laura Morera and Vadim Muntagirov and even got to watch a rehearsal for the romantic ballet, The Two Pigeons.
Kate last visited the Royal Opera House with her daughter Charlotte (3) in December. This time she opted for a purple Oscar de la Renta skirt suit and gold-buckled black patent Rupert Sanderson heels and, after seeing Meghan's fabulous purple and red ensemble earlier this week, we have to conclude that purple is the way to go this week.
The Duchess of Cambridge toured the costume department, which makes up to 600 costumes every season! Head of Costume, Fay Fullerton, explained that the costumes have to be designed to allow the dancers a large range of movement.
Kate visited the pattern room and was given a quick lesson on how new costumes are designed, as well as how fabrics are sourced for them.
Her next stop was the dye shop, where fabrics that are no longer available can be reproduced using a variety of techniques, including dyeing, hand-painting, staining and digital printing.
Tour over, Kate met the Royal Ballet's principal dancers, Lauren Cuthbertson, Laura Morera and Vadim Muntagirov and even got to watch them rehearse The Two Pigeons ballet!
