And luckily Her Majesty and her family have fantastic security on hand. Because they were called into action this week after a security scare on castle grounds shook the royal family. Officers responded to a security breach around 8:30 a.m., according to official police report. It turns out a 19-year-old man from Southampton was looking to make trouble inside the castle.
He was arrested and taken into custody. In a medieval twist, officers found a crossbow after searching the man for any weapons. "We can confirm security processes were triggered within moments of the man entering the grounds and he did not enter any buildings," Thames Valley Police Superintendent Rebecca Mears said in a statement.
Intruder With Crossbow Arrested At Windsor!
One can only imagine what someone with a crossbow inside the castle could do! Especially when the Queen and her family were gathered together to celebrate the holidays on castle grounds at the time! Luckily nothing happened and members of the royal family were quickly informed of the incident.
"The man was taken into custody and has undergone a mental health assessment — he has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and remains in the care of medical professionals," police said in a statement.
On Monday, police informed the press they were investigating a video linked to the 19-year-old suspect. The video allegedly shows the masked individual holding a crossbow and addressing the camera with a distorted voice, saying they wanted to "assassinate" the Queen. Although charges haven't been officially filed yet, it's likely police will look to make an example of the intruder to deter any future would be attackers!
